Wondernut Farm:
A ground-up-off-grid-sustainable-leaning-diversified-demonstration-farm-and-agricultural-enterprise-incubator experiment
Located in the Sierra foothills outside Yosemite, we run our herd of East Friesian dairy sheep and mixed breed goats on 38 acres of blue oak woodland and oak savanna. We also breed and slowly raise heritage hogs on rotated pasture, feeding locally grown, lactofermented non-GMO barley, sorghum, and chickpeas, and never use antibiotics or hormones to speed growth. We manage our animals as best we can, based on their health and well being as well as their ecological relation to the natural landscape. We're committed to figuring out systems and scales that make sense in all aspects of farm development, from housing and attempts at sustainable infrastructure to business organization and risk management to the relationship between personal cost and satisfaction.
We believe that in growing and sharing high quality, thoughtful, delicious food, we will galvanize the connections between our food and both our immediate and extended community. We are building a hub to educate and foster an ethical, affordable quality of life while creating local economic development with diverse pathways for all to real food.
